“For us, it is very important that the migration policy of the U.S. government includes the regularization of Mexicans,” said López Obrador.
President Andrés Manuel López Obrador reacted to the executive order by U.S. President Joe Biden, announced for this Tuesday to limit asylum requests at the border with Mexico as a migration measure, and hinted that he might speak with him by phone today.
In his morning conference on Tuesday, June 4, at the National Palace, López Obrador indicated that “there are positions of both governments,” advocated for a policy of good neighborliness, and “that we take care of our economic integration.”
“For us, it is very important that the migration policy of the U.S. government includes at least two things: One, the regularization of Mexicans who have been working in the United States for many years and who contribute to the development of that great nation (…)”.
He indicated that any U.S. candidate who addresses demands in favor of compatriots in the United States “will undoubtedly count on the sympathy of millions of Mexicans.” He reiterated that the relationship with the U.S. president “is very good.”
In the Treasury Room, López Obrador showed the 10 points he read to Joe Biden about migration. He insisted that the United States should contribute a percentage to address the causes of migration.
