Road closures are being implemented in the Calle Blancos area in Goicoechea due to the construction activities of the Circunvalación Norte. Starting on August 23, closures will affect Avenues 29 and 29A from 5:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. for a period of 7 days. This disruption is part of the larger initiative to connect the three-level interchange on route 32 (San José-Limón) at Tibás with Calle Blancos in Goicoechea, with completion targeted for mid-2024.
The Functional Unit 5 (UF 5) of the project encompasses a 1.5-kilometer section and will feature elevated roadways, tunnels, and split-level intersections. The new route intends to link route 32 near Amazon’s premises through Calle Blancos, culminating at the Guadalupe viaduct roundabout. Safety concerns during the installation of 40-ton beams necessitate these closures, as heavy-duty cranes are utilized on site.
The entire Circunvalación Norte project, spearheaded by the H. Solís-Estrella consortium, stretches over several kilometers with portions already operational. Funded primarily by the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (BCIE) at costs exceeding $220 million, the project aims to enhance connectivity across major zones, including Alajuela, Heredia, Los Hatillos, and the stretch between San José and Caldera.
