Cartago School Closed Due to Vandalism Concerns

A parents’ meeting was held with representatives from the MEP (Ministry of Public Education), PANI (National Childhood Trust), and Public Force.

Parents protested and shut down the Moisés Coto Fernández School in Cartago due to safety concerns stemming from recurring vandalism. One parent, who wished to remain anonymous, shared, “The kids who committed vandalism are sent to 10 days of distance learning because they broke classroom windows and climbed onto the roofs.” The parent added, “Yesterday they broke windows, so at 2:30 p.m. the school was evacuated. Every parent rushed to see what happened.”

After discussions with the school’s director and representatives from the Ministry of Public Education, the National Childhood Trust (PANI), and Public Force officers, two primary agreements were reached: a 10-working-day suspension for the involved students and the formation of a parent commission to represent the parent community in future processes. Despite the disruptions, the school plans to resume normal lessons by the afternoon.
