Electricity rates will increase between 15% and 20% starting in 2025, due to higher thermal generation.
The news was announced this Monday by the Regulatory Authority for Public Services (Aresep), which stated that the adjustments are due to the increase in thermal energy consumption during 2023 and so far in 2024.
This is a consequence of the El Niño phenomenon and decreased rainfall.

On this matter, Carlos Montenegro from the Chamber of Industries called for measures to be taken, such as distributing the increase over 24 months.
Additionally, the business group has advocated for the approval of the electric market harmonization project.
