Don’t know how to insure a family member with the Costa Rican Social Security Fund (CCSS) and need to do it urgently? Here’s a step-by-step guide on what you need to do.

Steps to Insure a Family Member with the CCSS

1. Attach all the documents and requirements that are current on this website.
2. Download the family protection application document, which can be found by clicking here, and then fill it out with your personal details and those of the person to be insured.
3. Appear in person at the health area or Ebáis of the community where you live.
4. Once you present all the documents at the medical center, you must wait a period of eight days for the resolution of the application.

According to the CCSS, as long as the required conditions and requirements are met, the validity of the Family Protection will be the same as that of the insurance of the salaried worker, independent worker, pensioner, voluntary insured, or State Account insured with whom it is related.

Additionally, the institution reminds that this procedure can also be requested by a refugee or asylum seeker.

The family insurance application is established in article 6 of the Regulation for Family Protection in the CCSS, according to the organization’s official platform.
