Vehicle Restriction Applies on May 10, During Mother’s Day Celebrations.

Authorities Announce Which Vehicles Will Not Circulate
This Thursday, May 9, the Megalopolis Environmental Commission (CAMe) announced that, due to high ozone levels in the environment, Phase 1 of an environmental contingency was activated, meaning that various vehicles will not circulate on Friday, May 10.

Through a press release, the commission detailed that starting at 1:00 PM on Thursday, maximum ozone concentrations have been recorded, mainly in the Gustavo A. Madero borough, due to the prevailing high-pressure system over the entire Valley of Mexico, which has strengthened throughout the day, resulting in moderate to strong atmospheric stability, “favoring intense solar radiation and weak winds with variable direction, causing the stagnation of ozone precursor pollutants over the northeast zone of the Valley of Mexico.”

It is worth noting that temperatures in the Metropolitan Area of the Valley of Mexico are between 30 to 33 degrees Celsius, which, combined with the previously described factors, led to the activation of Phase 1 of the environmental contingency.

Which Vehicles Will Not Circulate?

The environmental measure coincides with Mother’s Day celebrations throughout the country. However, in the case of the Metropolitan Area of the Valley of Mexico, the following vehicles will not be allowed to circulate from 5:00 AM to 10:00 PM to prevent worsening air quality:

-Private vehicles with verification hologram 2
-Private vehicles with verification hologram 1 and license plate ending in NON (1, 3, 5, 7, 9, 0)
-Private vehicles with verification hologram 00 and 0, blue sticker, and license plate ending in 9 and 0
-Vehicles without a verification hologram, such as old vehicles, demonstration or transfer vehicles, new vehicles, those with a tourist pass, out-of-state plates, or plates composed of letters, are subject to the same restriction as vehicles with hologram 2

50% restriction on the circulation of L.P. gas delivery units to stationary tanks without a dry disconnect valve, with license plate ending in NON.

Local or federal cargo vehicles are not allowed to circulate between 6:00 AM and 10:00 AM, except those included in the Self-Regulation Program of Mexico City or the State of Mexico.

Taxis with verification hologram 00, 0, 1, or 2 that must stop circulating according to the provisions indicated in items 1, 2, and 3, are subject to the circulation restriction during the aforementioned hours.
