For the month of September, the Public Services Regulatory Authority (Aresep) in Costa Rica is projecting a tariff increase in fuel prices, marking it as the most significant surge this year. The price per liter for Super gasoline is set to increase by ₡66, while Regular gasoline will rise by ₡52, diesel by ₡44, and Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) by ₡436.
Mario Mora, the Energy Commissioner of Aresep, stated that this tentative proposal is based on the acquisition costs of fuels and fluctuations in exchange rates, with a special note that the Costa Rican Oil Refinery (Recope) is yet to submit invoices for 6 fuel shipments it acquired internationally. Mora further clarified that the entirety of the domestic fuel price adjustment is due to a surge in Recope’s purchase prices, which are in turn influenced by international pricing trends.
With current data, the acquisition cost for Super gasoline has increased by 18%, Regular gasoline by 15%, and diesel by 3%.
