Predict thunderstorms in maritime areas; warning of rip currents for the Caribbean

The Institute of Meteorology and Hydrology of Panama forecasts the generation of electrical activity and strong local winds in gusts for this Wednesday, April 10, in the Caribbean and Pacific regions.

Weather:

In the morning, scattered showers with electrical activity are expected in the maritime zone of the Caribbean and Pacific, and as the morning progresses, scattered showers with electrical activity are forecasted in Darien, Panama, West Panama, and the South of the Azuero Peninsula; isolated rains on the Caribbean slope.

In the afternoon, scattered showers are expected to persist in sectors of Panama, West Panama, Colon, Cocle, and the Azuero Peninsula, and as the afternoon progresses, scattered showers from moderate to heavy with electrical activity are expected in the Western Region of the country; isolated showers in the rest of the country.

In the evening, scattered showers with electrical activity are expected to continue in the Gulf of Chiriqui and sectors of Chiriqui, isolated showers in Bocas del Toro, the Ngäbe-Buglé comarca, and Veraguas.

Temperatures:

Maximum temperatures will range from 22°C to 25°C in the Central Cordillera, from 27°C to 29°C on the Caribbean slope and in the Metropolitan Region, and from 30°C to 35°C in the rest of the country.

Maritime conditions:

Caribbean: Waves with heights between 1.3 to 2.2 meters and periods between 08 to 10 seconds. Maritime conditions remain under warning in the Caribbean due to waves, possible rip currents.

Pacific: Waves with heights between 0.4 to 1.5 meters and periods between 14 to 16 seconds.

Wind:

Throughout the day, northwest to northeast winds are expected with speeds up to 20 km/h on the Caribbean slope.

On the Pacific slope, variable winds are expected throughout the day with speeds up to 15 km/h, changing in the afternoon for sectors of Darien, Gulf of Chiriqui, Chiriqui, and South Veraguas with south to west winds with speeds up to 25 km/h.

UV-B Radiation Index: Maximum indices between 05 to 10 with a moderate to very high risk level in the country.
