The Fiscalía Adjunta de Probidad, Transparencia y Anticorrupción is investigating six more individuals concerning alleged financial irregularities in President Rodrigo Chaves Robles’ electoral campaign with the Partido Progreso Social Democrático (PPSD). The suspects, identified by their surnames, are being investigated for potential violations related to private campaign contributions.
A distinct investigation is also underway involving President Chaves, Foreign Minister Arnoldo André Tinoco, and other officials. Notably, raids have been carried out in connection with this case.
Many of the individuals under scrutiny have close ties to President Chaves. For instance, Sofía Agüero Salazar, daughter of MP Waldo Agüero and a former assistant to Chaves during his campaign, allegedly used her bank account to funnel significant amounts for campaign financing. Evidence suggests she was linked to payments of thousands of dollars from her bank accounts. She reportedly received over $195,000 from banker Jack Loeb Casanova, who has previously been a significant donor to the PPSD.
Erick Quesada Gutiérrez, another figure linked to the case, made considerable investments in campaign bonds. Adrián Torrealba Navas made personal financial contributions to a trust associated with the campaign. Furthermore, Carlos Vásquez Landergreen, who had a managerial role in the aforementioned trust, confirmed his involvement in certain transactions but denied any electoral usage. Lastly, Calixto Chaves Zamora, who directed Chaves’ electoral campaign, is described by the President as a close confidant.
