- The closure will be applied preventatively.
- Vehicle passage would be suspended again if it rains.
The route 32 (San José-Limón) reopened just after 1:00 p.m. this Friday, following a closure that had been in effect since Wednesday.
The Ministry of Public Works and Transportation (MOPT) and the National Road Council (Conavi) reported that the road had been closed due to the fall of materials in multiple sectors, including at kilometer 32.
MOPT detailed that the route will reopen but will undergo a preventative closure from 6:00 p.m. Friday to 6:00 a.m. Saturday.
“The passage is reopened at this moment, and constant monitoring is maintained; it will be preventatively closed if materials fall or if there is very heavy rain. From 6:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m., it will be closed preventatively. The reopening would occur after inspection,” stated MOPT through an official publication.
The fall of material occurred after the heavy rains that affected a large part of the national territory between Tuesday and Wednesday.
“Drivers are requested to exercise caution, bearing in mind that there are personnel and machinery working in the area,” cited the ministry.
Similarly, those traveling from San José to Limón or vice versa can also use three alternative routes available:
- National Route 10 (Limón-Siquirres-Turrialba-Cartago).
- Bajos de Chilamate-Vuelta de Kopper (towards the Northern Zone).
- Sarapiquí through Vara Blanca.
