The National System of Civil Protection (SINAPROC) will maintain the precautionary notice until Thursday, September 28.
SINAPROC has issued a warning due to the possibility of rip currents occurring along the Panamanian Pacific coast until Thursday, September 28, 2023.
Under these conditions, the Institute of Meteorology and Hydrology of Panama (IMHPA) notes an increase in wave periods and the likelihood of rip currents. Additionally, tides of 16.3 feet (4.8 meters in height) are expected during the early hours of September 28, 2023.
Areas under precautionary notice:
- Western Pacific: (Gulf of ChiriquÃ) with wave heights ranging from 1.0 to 1.3 meters and periods of 15 to 19 seconds.
- Central Pacific: (Azuero Peninsula) waves will reach heights of 1.1 to 1.3 meters with periods of 16 to 19 seconds.
- Eastern Pacific: (Gulf of Panama) waves from 0.6 to 1.2 meters in height and periods of 16 to 19 seconds.
SINAPROC advises the public to adhere to the norms and preventive measures set by security entities located in ports and beaches. Moreover, it is recommended to stay alert to authorities’ announcements, avoid engaging in recreational and artisanal fishing activities, and remain in a safe location.
