The Institute of Meteorology and Hydrology of Panama (Imhpa) issued a prevention alert for high temperatures and thermal sensation from March 12 to March 16.
According to Imhpa, warmer conditions are expected over the next few days throughout the country and surrounding regions due to the occurrence of the Spring Equinox, resulting in a higher incidence of ultraviolet rays in the tropical region.
Temperatures will range from 32°C to 39°C, with air humidity between 62 and 78 percent, generating a thermal sensation of 35°C to 46°C.
Meanwhile, for nights, the temperature will be between 24°C and 29°C, humidity from 70 to 89 percent, and the thermal sensation between 24°C and 34°C.
Conditions will range from ‘extreme caution’ to ‘danger’, with a probability of causing sunstroke, cramps, and heatstroke.
Reductions in the trade winds will cause a higher thermal sensation, so people are advised to drink plenty of water, wear cool clothing, avoid prolonged exposure to the sun, and avoid strenuous physical activity.
