This Saturday, April 20, from 9:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m., the total closure of the four lanes of the Pan-American Highway in Loma Cová, Arraiján district, will take place due to progress in the concrete pouring and beam assembly works on the viaduct being constructed in this sector, reported the Panama Metro.
According to the Traffic Management Plan (PMT) approved by the Land Transit and Transportation Authority (ATTT), the closure of the four lanes will take place from the entrance of Panamá Pacífico to the fuel station near the community of 7 de Septiembre in Arraiján cabecera.
Panama Metro recommended all drivers to use the Centenario road, in order to minimize traffic disruptions.
“Those who transit through this area, when the closure is active, and are heading towards La Chorrera, should return through the Howard interchange towards the capital to take the Centenario road,” announced the Panama Metro.
In mid-September 2023, the pieces of the tunnel boring machine that will be used to dig the tunnel passing under the Panama Canal began to arrive. It was manufactured in Germany and arrived at the Port of Manzanillo divided into 99 pieces that were transported to the Farfán Industrial Complex, where it will be assembled.
According to the company, tunneling works will begin in the second quarter of 2024, and will last for at least 22 months. The tunnel will have a depth of 65 meters below sea level, will cross the Panama Canal, and will have a length of 4.5 kilometers.
According to the work schedule, Metro Line 3 is projected to be delivered by 2026.
