A notice of surveillance for high UV-B radiation levels was issued this Friday, April 12th, by the Institute of Meteorology and Hydrology of Panama, as announced by the National Civil Protection System (Sinaproc).
Atmospheric conditions remain favorable to allow for high incidence of ultraviolet type B radiation towards the surface. The risk levels in the country will range from moderate to extreme, with UV-B indices reaching up to No. 15, with the Pacific sector being the area with the highest expected indices. For the Caribbean sector, it will be more varied and dependent on the cloud cover expected.
The surveillance notice will be in effect until April 16th at 5:00 p.m. As indicated by the entity, a moderate (3-5) to extreme (11-12) risk level is expected in the following areas under surveillance:
-Colón
-Ngäbe-Buglé Comarca
-Bocas del Toro
-Northern Veraguas
-Guna Yala Comarca
On the other hand, a high (6-7) to extreme (11-13) level is expected for some areas of the Pacific slope that are under surveillance:
-Chiriquí
-South and Central Veraguas
-Los Santos
-Herrera
-Coclé
-West Panama
-Panama
-Darien
-Emberá-Wounaan Comarca
