López Obrador in his morning press conference on June 3 at the National Palace.
President Andrés Manuel López Obrador stated that when he hands over the presidential sash to Claudia Sheinbaum, the president-elect, he will be able to say “mission accomplished” and will retire from the public and political life of the country.
In a press conference, celebrating the people’s triumph in last Sunday’s elections and the electoral victory of the Morena, PR, and PVEM presidential candidate, the Head of State said he congratulated his successor last night.
“We already spoke yesterday, I congratulated her, I am very happy, imagine what it means to hand over the Presidency to a woman after 200 years of only men governing Mexico, from Guadalupe Victoria who was president from 1824 to 1828, from then until 2024.”
The President highlighted that Sheinbaum is the most voted candidate in the history of Mexico, which he described as historic.
“Moreover, she is an intelligent woman, very intelligent both for her sensitivity and her academic degrees; she has a doctorate, she is a woman with convictions, who was formed in the student struggle and the fight for democracy in Mexico, she is a woman with a lot of experience in the art of governing because she has already held positions, she was Head of Government of Mexico City among other positions and above all, she is an honest woman, which is very important, it is really a historic event, we are in a glorious moment, I feel very happy.”
President López Obrador reiterated that he will not do a farewell tour and that in September he will visit the states of the country to raise the white flag by launching the new IMSS-BIENESTAR Health System.
